Possibly my favourite book of 2009

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is one of my favourite books. I borrowed it from the library and loved it so much that I went and bought a copy for myself while I still had a library copy on loan. Hope you enjoy it!

This is a lovely, easy to read, book about a subject that I previously knew nothing about. I have seen it described as 'feel good' book but as it made me cry I wouldn't agree. It is a very interesting topic told through the eyes of a fascinating group of people. I think I'll have to go home and read it again.

I just finished reading this book a couple of days ago. It made me laugh out loud and cry in front of strangers (I read it while travelling). I thought the story had a definite tragic sadness to it, but I also thought it was a hopeful story that shows the strength, tenacity and love of the human spirit. I've just come home from Vietnam and have seen evidence of how war destroys life so reading about these characters who lived through a war and found a reason to smile during and after it, seemed so real to me. I didn't want the story to end and I now want to go to Guernsey and find me a [insert name]!!! One of my favourite books also!

I loved the way the literary society had formed a lovely community that supported each other through tough times and were taking care of the little girl.

I must say I was shocked that a certain person died (I won't spoil in case you haven't read it yet, but those of you who have know what I mean). I thought it would be a feel-good all the way type story, but in actual fact it turned out better this way.

The love story was really well done too. Not overdone, but gee weren't you glad about the outcome.

This was a really nice read that I would have no trouble recommending to a wide range of people!
